Bag of bones
Novel Bag of Bones has something different in comparison with other novels of Stephen King, and you feel it since you have been interested in this King’s fictional world. There is something complicated and unusual in the sophisticated work and it falls short of genre fiction.
Do not make mistakes. Stephen King has made a story with horror. But it is not a horror story. It is actually a love story but it happens to reside a ghost. Mike Noonan is the main character of Bag of Bones. He is a novelist like The Dark Half, and Four Past Midnight’s Secret Window, Secret Garden, Misery. But mike suffers from writer’s block since his wife has died of a sudden aneurysm. It happened four years ago when she was buying a pregnancy test. Mike tries to overcome this block and he decides to go to the lake house in the backwoods of Maine.
But over time Mike understands that he lives not alone at the house in Sara Laughs. He falls in love with Mattie, who is a neighbor, and Kyra who is a Mattie’s young daughter. Mike meets the ghost of Max Devore who is a grandfather of Kyra. The ghost wants to gain custody of Kyra from Mattie.
But then Mike finds out the curse of the place Sara Laughs. People should murder their firstborn children. Mike understands that he should kill his child and he starts to tango with the spirits of Sara Laughs and Devore. The novel Bag of bones is a ghost story which may be compared with the classics of Hitchcock and du Mauriers’ Rebecca (which was adapted into a film starring Laurence Olivier). The fans of Creepshow and Pet Semetary may be disappointed while the fans of King who is a good classic novelist will be satisfied.
