Carrie
If course, most of us studied at high school and had some awkward situations in that period. You might be a black sheep and it is not pleasant. You may not fit the crowd. And so is Carrie in the Stephen King’s novel “Carrie”. She was like a black sheep in the crowd.
Carrie White was a 17-year-old girl. She was shy and lived in Westover, Maine. Her parents were religious but the father was murdered in the construction accident before birth. So she was alone with mother. The mother considered Carrie a product of pure sin. Their life was simple and they visited church about three times a week for several hours.
It was difficult for Carrie to be like a normal teenager because there were strict religious rules at home. The story starts with the moment when Carrie takes shower in Gym Class at the high school. This act would be disapproved because it is not permitted because it is sinful. When Carrie leaves the shower, she sees blood on her lag. It is typical for a teenager because her first period begins. Carrie does not know about it and she is scared. The girls begin to tease her and call her names and give her tampons. Then the gym teacher interferes and punishes the girls and Carrie is sent home.
The other days of her life are almost the same. When Carrie started to study, everybody teases her. She does not have any friend during the study. She is not unattractive but she is different and this difference does not fit that youth.
But then Carrie notices some strange things happen when she is anger. When she was in shower, a light busted. When a little boy on the bile teased her, the tires popped. And when she was 3 years old the stones fell from the sky on the home she lived in. And these things became stronger when the period began. And she began to work in the bedroom to make this ability stronger.
But there was a period when everything becomes better. Her schoolmate invited her to the Prom. Carrie made a perfect dress and everything was perfect. But Christine who was always teasing her did not come to the Prom and Carrie was blamed. Carrie got angry with it and destruction was caused in Westover, Maine.
Carrie is a real victim in this story. Constant teases, careless teachers and mother with her strict religion… Carrie needed only friendship and love. But as a result her hate and fear cause destruction. And we may ask a question: “If Carrie’s life was different, would she have her powers?”.
