Cujo
Cujo turns to the story of pitiless horror. It reflects the disturbing tale of Old Yeller but in spite of tale there is less moral and nobody will be safe at the end of the novel.
The reader is transported to the town Castle Rock by Stephen King. This place is familiar to fans because this place is used in The Dead Zone and Needful Things. It may seem that this novel was written by chance. But those who know the past life of King may understand that it was written during the drugs addiction and King acknowledges it in his On Writing. Still the novel is good written but the tone of disparity can be noticed which is not typical for Stephen King.
In Cujo events are connected with two families: the middle class and blue collar. The terrible things begin when Cujo gets rabies from a bat. Cujo is a Saint Bernard of Brett Camber, the son of Joe and Charity Camber. But it is interesting that those who contact the dog are not infected.
At first the dog beats and kills Gary Pervier, the neighbor of Joe. Joe wanted to meet him and pick up him and when he enters Gary´s house he finds out that he is murdered. But Joe is also killed by Cujo when he was trying to call the police.
This novel is sad and sadistic at the same time. Donna Trenton (middle class) with her little son go to Joe. But car accident occurs and they are trapped in the car for about 3 days. And their death is cruel.
This novel is also cruel and it may be the unforgiving novel of the author. The reader will be always kept in suspence. The real fans of the horror will appreciate Cujo at its true value.
