Desperation
Desparation tells the story of one town which haunted by a psychic vampire, Tak, that sucks out the mental energy. Desparation is situated in Nevada. When travelers pass this town they may think that it is mining and forgotten town. But they will be lucky if they pass the town. However, the author is more ominous for his characters.
King raises the theme of isolation in this novel. Travelers get to Desperation and they are like unfortunate albatrosses. The travelers go on Highway 50 and then they find out the entity of Tak. The sheriff of the town, Collie Entragian, has been taken by Tak and Collie takes these travelers on the Highway 50. When Tak has taken over the body, a person enters a state of living decay. Tak takes every live creature. It may be even a spider, or a bird, or other creature which is met by Tak. Tak lives for account of somebody´s life. And in the end of the novel a few live creature are left.
The reader may think that this Tak could not be stopped. But there is a little boy, who is 11 years old and his name is David Carver. He was traveling on Highway 50. The fans of King may be fa,iliar with little heroes of the novel because there are other stories when little characters save the other lives (for example, Firestarter and The Shining). Here David is a strong boy with belief in God. He relies on the faith to win Tak and God is an invisible weapon.
Desperation is an example of suspenseful and bloody story which describes new sides of the road traveling. It is one of the best works of Stephen King and the readers will get all that they want reading the real horrors. There is no doubt that after reading the novel the reader will have nightmares.
