Insomnia
Nightmare and Dreamscape, a story collection of Stephen King, contains a story The Ten o´Clock People which tells about smokers who are able to see demons among people.
The story takes place in Derry, Maine (this place is also described in the novel It) and the novel Insomnia is the same in some way. The main character is Ralph Roberts. He is 70 years old and he suffers from insomnia. But then he realizes that he is able to see invisible for others things due to insomnia. Ralph calls it “Little Bald Doctors”.
Lois Chasse, a friend of Ralph, helps him to understand the purpose of the Little Bald Doctors. These creatures are actually the death givers and this process is natural in this novel.
These Little Bald Doctors are then known as Lachesis, Clotho and Atropos like in Greek Mythology. Clotho and Lachesis ask Lois and Ralph to make a pro-choice demonstration.
Insomnia and many other novels have a direct connection with the Dark Tower as The Crimson King which will be in Black House and the Dark Tower. In Insomnia the story The Crimson King is showed in the form of entity which holds Ed Deepnau who has suffered from dementia. The Crimson King influences on Ed and he tries to steer the explosive plane into pro-choice demonstration which should be made by Lois and Ralph. The conclusion of the story is a bang and Ralph has to fight these beings and Ed Deepnau.
Insomnia may seem to be difficult for understanding and rather long. But it contains bibliography of Stephen King and the readers will be satisfied with the ending of the novel.
