The Drawing of the Three
The Drawing of the Three is a continuation of the Dark Tower series and Roland of Gilead tries to get to the famous Dark Tower. A big lobster-like creature injures Roland and he tries to get out of the deserted landscape of the Mid-World. Roland continues his way, sick and tired and soon he faces three doors. In order to finish his quest he should go through each of the doors like Alice in Wonderland.
Roland has brought these three characters from the doors in the future drug-induced meeting of the Fellowship at Rivendell. Two were companions, and the third was becoming Roland´s adversary.
The first door opens the “real world” of 1987 before Roland and shows a drug trader Eddie. Eddie feels that he is at the dead end in his life and he tails Roland and appears in the confusing world of the Dark Tower.
The second door shows 1964 year where Roland faces Odetta Holmes. She was without a leg after a dangerous accident in a subway. She gives way to despair and joins Eddie and Roland.
The third door presents 1977 and shows another enemy for Roland and the companions. His name is Jack Mort who is a murderer. He causes different accidents including that one with Odetta.
Now this landscape is different with these three newcomers and soon the climax of the story occurs which result in confrontation between Jack and Roland. This confrontation will lead to the third book which is called The Wastelands.
A reader who will start with the story The Drawing of the Three will be confused and will not understand many things. It is better to start with The Gunslinger which is the first book of the Dark Tower. The Drawing of the Three will describe the central characters throughout the series and that is why it is a critical part in the series.
